Continuous Improvement Technician

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for supporting the manufacturing team with a variety of continuous and process improvement projects.  This position is required to participate in the creation of a Lean work environment by eliminating waste in our manufacturing processes through the development of work stations, material flow and presentation, and workplace organization improvements. This position is also responsible for preparing, executing, and following up with assigned improvement projects. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
More specifically, the employee owner will:
Construct or procure carts, devices, tools, simple jigs and fixtures, shelving, work stations, safety equipment, labels, equipment, etc. in support of assigned improvement projects.  
Work closely with the manufacturing engineers, safety team, R&D group, and maintenance to coordinate work and maintain consistency and continuity, safety, quality, and efficiency to complete the projects in a timely manner.
Work directly with employees and leadership to document improvement opportunities and assist in the rapid implementation utilizing the Job Methods module of TWI. 
Complete continuous improvement projects with the use of 5S tools to increase flow and reduce waste.
Collect data and/or cycle time information as required in preparation of a continuous improvement project.
Basic machining, welding, assembly, and maintenance may be required as defined by the project or solution
Use proficient computer skills and be able to learn other special software as required to complete assigned responsibilities.
Check welds, steel shafts, and steel plate using non-destructive testing methods (NDT) including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, dye penetrant testing, or visual testing.  Report and document inspections and produce records when required. *as required by location
Regularly participate in additional training related to the job and perform extra assignments in other areas and related tasks as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience in production and/or manufacturing preferred.
Demonstrate the ability to participate in a positive and engaged team atmosphere.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.  Must be able to read, write, and speak English to properly understand and relay important safety and quality information.
Capable of working well with others and maintaining excellent interdepartmental relationships.  Readily accepts instruction from management and supervisors and executes effectively.
Must be able to take initiative and work independently at times.  Needs to be reliable and open to a flexible schedule.
Strong computer comprehension capabilities, including Word, Excel, and various PPI system applications.
 
EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS 
High school diploma or a general education degree (GED); or
Two to three years’ related experience and/or training; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
TRAINING – CERTIFICATIONS – LICENSES 
Valid state driver’s license
Forklift license
Ability to obtain PPI Weld Certification
Must be able to attain and maintain NDT Level 1 Certification within 3 years in position
