Financial & Compliance Specialist
The Financial & Compliance Specialist is a full time, hourly position that is located in the main branch of Pella, Iowa.
Position Purpose
Support the Risk Officer to continually assess and identify potential risks to the bank in the areas of finance; regulatory compliance and oversight; and information technology and cyber-security created by dynamic environments. Support bank operations by accurately and efficiently processing, completing and reconciling operational accounting. Assist the Risk Officer through collaboration with management, in coordinating with third parties, auditors and regulators as they assess the bank in its efforts and programs designed to control identified risks. Support efforts to maintain and achieve accuracy, efficiency, organization and structure within the risk management department. Assist in the administration of the bank’s Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) in order to maintain a high level of compliance and risk mitigation.
Position Accountabilities

- Assist the Risk Officer in developing risk control efforts in such a way that they minimize the impact to the bank’s customers.
- Provide timely support to bank management and staff when they encounter unique situations requiring research and direction in complying with applicable regulation.
- Maintain the security and confidentiality of customer information.
- Demonstrate Effective Accounting and Administrative Support
- Perform data entry and reporting responsibilities related to general ledger efficiently, and in compliance with bank procedures and regulatory requirements, maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Provide support for the recording of various financial transactions for analysis by the bank leadership for financial decision making.
- Provide support for the accurate and efficient processing of accounts payable; processing incoming invoices, verifying approvals, and issuing payments via ACH, check, or wire.
- Reconcile accounts and verify accuracy of reports; reconciling credit card statements and employee expense reimbursement requests to ensure compliance with bank policy.
- Maintain a well-developed working knowledge of the core and ancillary banking systems.
- Assist the Risk/Compliance Officer in Establishing and Maintaining a Functional Compliance Culture
- Achieve and maintain a base of knowledge on regulations and law that the bank is required to comply with on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive compliance management program that facilitates ongoing regulatory compliance and effectively monitors ongoing compliance efforts.
- Assist the Risk Officer in the Coordination, Implementation and Monitoring of Controls that Limit Bank Financial Exposures:
- Assist in gathering and evaluating information designed to limit financial exposures created by interest rate risk, liquidity risk and dependency risk
- Assist in gathering and evaluating information that may impact the capital position and earnings of the bank in varying environments
- Assist in gathering and evaluating information to assess the potential impact of credit risk on the bank.
- Perform data entry responsibilities related to core and ancillary banking systems efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with bank procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Reconcile accounts and verify accuracy of reports.
- Assist the Risk Officer in Coordinating the Bank’s Response and Preparation for Regulatory Examinations and Third-Party Audits
- Assist the Risk Officer in achieving a culture of constant audit and examination readiness.
- Assist in the review of documentation and information requests for pending regulatory examinations and audits.
- Assist in gathering required documentation and coordinating efforts to submit the same.
- Assist the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer
- Assist the BSA Officer to develop, implement, and administer the BSA monitoring systems to ensure that appropriate parameters are in place to identify suspicious and/or fraudulent activity.
- Assist in maintaining effective SAR investigation, review and reporting processes that promote consistent decisions; adequate investigation and research; and complete and detailed documentation.
- Responsible for ensuring all required regulatory reporting is conducted in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner, including the filing of Currency Transaction Reports (CTR’s) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR’s).
- Assist the BSA Officer with the administration of related training programs to Directors, Management, and Employees.
