Weld Supervisor

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Production Manager, this position is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in welding of products and structures. They must be able to apply knowledge of welding techniques, materials, equipment, and fabrication requirements as well as analyze work orders and blueprints to determine need for supplies, labor, and sequence of operations. The Weld Supervisor will ultimately be responsible for managing the workload to efficiently accomplish published schedules to meet customer due dates.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Interviews and trains new weld staff.

  • Communicate job expectations and performance requirements to welders.

  • Initiate, coordinate and enforce production, safety, and quality systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

  • May handle or assist with discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.


  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and abilities.

  • Manage, lead, and develop staff in the performance of duties such that performance meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Coordinates with engineering, quality control, supervisory personnel, and maintenance to identify and resolve scheduling, production, and quality problems.

  • Facilitate the ongoing continuous improvement process using techniques such as 5’S, TPM, Kanban etc.

  • Identify needs relating to improvements in safety/ergonomics and assist in developing and implementing solutions to these issues.

  • Ensure safety of Weld Department by conducting safety audits, improved communication, and training.

  • Work with others in the attainment of departmental and organizational goals.

  • Identify, confront, and resolve conflict in an effective manner by working with people in all levels of the Organization.

  • Inspects work and coordinates with Production Manager to maintain schedules, specified standards, and quality.

  • Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading with the ability to train and qualify welders.

  • Trains new employees and evaluates work performance.

  • Strong working knowledge of MIG, TIG and Soldering operations.

  • Ability to see the big picture and how an area affects the rest of the Organization.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability and knowledge to train and qualify welders to AWS and ASME codes and standards.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proven problem-solving skills.

  • Proven mechanical ability.

  • Extensive knowledge in blueprint reading .

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Extensive blueprint reading skills with the ability to train and test employees.

  • Proficient in Microsoft programs.

  • Excellent work ethic with minimum supervision and highly organized.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills that convey information effectively with a positive attitude.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to work on feet for a 10-hour shift.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. without restriction.

Education & Experience:

  • 3-5 years supervision experience in a production environment.
