TITLE: DIESEL MECHANIC - MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
REPORT TO: SHOP MANAGER
BASED AT: PELLA, IA
POSITION TYPE: FULL-TIME
DAYS OF OPERATION: MONDAY -FRIDAY; OCCASIONAL SATURDAY MAY BE REQUIRED
JOB DESCRIPTION: Technicians will perform essential repair and routine maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks, including, but not limited to the following:
• Chassis Components
• Vehicle Refuse Bodies and Control Systems
• Hydraulic, Electrical, and Air Brake Systems
• General Engine Work and Drivetrain
• HVAC Components, Suspension, and Steering Systems
• Basic Tire Work (Replacements, rotations, and Tread Depth Checks)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Mechanical knowledge about diesel engines, fuel delivery systems, transmissions, and exhaust set ups.
• Familiarity with commercial vehicle components, including chassis, suspension, steering, and drivetrain layouts.
• Understanding of vehicle refuse bodies, heavy-duty hydraulic lines, and advanced electrical routing.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Technical proficiency and able to use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic lifts and computerized testing equipment safety.
• Mastery of OSHA shop standards, proper tool safety, and uses safe operation protocols for hydraulic vehicle lifts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, diagnosis and repair OR will be graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (Class B CDL Preferred).
• Must be over 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
• Perform general engine work, drivetrain maintenance, HVAC repairs, and basic tire servicing.
• Provide safe and timely road service when necessary.
• Perform line maintenance welding and metal fabrication as needed.
• Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
