Author Visit with Pella Public Library
The Pella Public Library is pleased to welcome author, Sue DeMarinis to present an author talk, discussion and slide show about her book, Hidden in Haarlem: Love and Survival in Nazi-Occupied Holland. This book revolves around a Dutch family, their involvement with the Resistance movement, and the history of the Nazi-occupied Haarlem, Holland area during World War II. The slide show will include photos of actual characters and historic places pertaining to the novel.
During World War II, many Hollanders thought the war was not just on the front lines. Hidden in Haarlem is based on true stories of an ordinary Dutch family who survived five war-torn years showing courage, conviction, ingenuity, and resilience while risking their lives to help fellow human beings. Everyday people became unlikely rebels by hiding Jewish refugees, Allied pilots, and Dutch work-draft dodgers. The Resistance brought together incredible characters and sometimes led to unexpected love.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
This event will take place in Room 206 of the Pella Community Center (712 Union St.) and is free and open to the public.
