Sep 11    Pella Historic Trust 2014 Annual Meeting and 20th Anniversary Celebration
Horse-drawn trolley tours of Pella's Collegiate Historic District are available at 4 and 4:30 pm (by reservation only, contact 641-628-4082). At 7 pm a free evening program will be available to the public in the Pella Opera House. The program will feature "Pella's Past in Postcards", "Collegiate Historic District and the Tuttle Log House" and updates from the restoration of 1110 Washington. Quilt raffles and awards will also be given.

Sep 13 - Sep 14    Dirty Wooden Shoe Cyclocross Race
Head to Lake Red Rock's South Overlook Park for cyclocross races, a unique discipline of bicycle racing that requires riders to traverse a short course featuring a variety of terrain including pavement, grass, steep hills and obstacles. In some instances racers will have to dismount and run a short distance with their bicycles. Races last between 30 minutes and an hour depending on the category and age level of racers, and historically has over 100 racers. Races will begin at 10 am with the masters category racers and conclude at 2:30 pm with junior racers on both Saturday and Sunday. The race will feature many local racers, most notably junior racer Tyler Reynolds of Pella, a recently crowned state champion in the criterium discipline. Sep 18    Pathway to Health: Mind, Body and Soul 6 Week Program
Ready to try a different approach to fitness? True wellness addresses our entire being- body, soul and mind. We all face similar challenges to reaching and maintaining a healthy weight; however, we are also all very different in our motivations, what we enjoy, and our obstacles. The program includes sessions with a certified Personal Trainer, membership to Pella Rec Center, and a six-week class entitled "Training Your Mind". There you are taught proven strategies for the common challenges people face when they begin a fitness program, realistic fitness goals, motivation, and how to confront habits that prevent success. Coffee Time in Dutch Bakery. Coffee, apple cider and baked goods are served all day in the Dutch Bakery. Savor a cup of cider and a Dutch pastry while listening to the antique street organ. Lunch served Saturday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm or while the Vegetable soup, windmill bread and pie last.

Tour the tallest working windmill in the United States, learn the ins and outs of operating an authentic Dutch Windmill.

Watch our skilled artisans at work quilting, spinning, weaving, knitting, tatting, crocheting, woodworking and making pottery.  Stop and watch the blacksmith doing his craft and the steam engine with the whistle blowing occasionally. Our master woodworker will be demonstrating using tools from a previous era.

Flower Show
The Pella Garden Club Flower Show throughout the Wyatt Earp Home features all types of artistically arranged fresh and dried flowers.

The Fall Flower Show is open to all flower arrangers and growers. Flower Show schedules are available at the Pella Historical Village office.

Pella Marching Dutch Chili Cook-Off Description: Please join us for the 3rd annual Pella High School Marching Dutch Chili Cook-Off at the Homecoming football game. Pella businesses, organizations, and school groups are cooking up their chilis, and you get to sample as many as you like. Vote for your favorite, and an award will be presented to the top vote-getter at the end of the 3rd quarter. Will Berean Baptist defend their 2013 title? Will "Shrek" chili win out? Will any of our other tasty competitors triumph? Come eat, vote, and find out. All proceeds from this event go to this year's Marching Dutch band trip to participate in the Citrus and Disney World parades in December.

Many Hands For Haiti is organizing their first Color Blast 5K to raise funds for a new truck for their ministry in Haiti. This 5K will begin at the Pella Rec Center and end at The Mango Tree. The Pella Community High School Marching Dutch will host its 5th annual marching band competition on Saturday, September 27th at the Pella High School Football Stadium. 19 of the area's best high school marching bands will compete for top honors in four classes. The Marching Dutch will perform at the end of the evening in Exhibition after the other schools.
