Storytelling "Slam" At Second Reformed Church
A series of fast-paced storytelling hours featuring Pella-area residents, the Second Reformed Church Story Slam, returns for a second year starting Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. after a popular debut last winter.
Inspired by the National Public Radio program, “The Moth,” the story slam features five speakers who tell real-life stories from their experiences, with each story of the evening revolving around a common theme. Speakers cannot use a script and stories are limited to 5-7 minutes.
The January 25 topic is “Heroes.” A story slam for Thursday, Feb. 15 is focused on “I Changed My Mind,” while “A Complete Misunderstanding” is the topic for Thursday, March 8.
Each event will be staged in the church’s Gathering Space near the north entrance and starts at 7 p.m. The church is located at the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street in Pella.
There are five storytellers each evening. Among those serving as storytellers this year are Rich Kacmarynski, Lynn Branderhorst, Dale Andringa, Paul Weihe, Rogelio Gomez, Cheri Doane, Ryun Ferrell, Carol Weihe and Derek Sparks.
The events are free and open to the public and include light refreshments. Contact the church office at 641-628-3982 for additional information.
